Biography

Tony Effe is one of the most recognisable figures in Italian trap, first gaining prominence with the Dark Polo Gang before building a successful solo career. Born Nicolò Rapisarda in Rome on 17 May 1991, he grew up in the city’s historic centre. His public life began long before music: as a child actor, he appeared in Carlo Verdone’s Viaggi di nozze and later in the television series Tutti per uno.

In 2014, he helped establish the Dark Polo Gang alongside Wayne Santana, Pyrex and Dark Side, later known as Side Baby. Working closely with producer Sick Luke, the group developed a distinctive identity built around sparse trap beats, slang, luxury fashion and irreverent humour. Their early releases helped bring a new sound and attitude into Italian rap, attracting a young audience through music videos and social media.

The mixtape Full Metal Dark appeared in 2015, followed in 2016 by Crack Musica, a project centred on Tony Effe and Side Baby. Twins, recorded with Wayne Santana, followed in 2017. Subsequent Dark Polo Gang releases, including Trap Lovers and Dark Boys Club, expanded the group’s audience and brought its members into contact with a wider circle of Italian rappers.

His first solo album, Untouchable, arrived in June 2021 and entered the Italian album chart at number one. Featuring Gucci Mane, Guè, Tedua and Lazza, it established him as a solo artist while retaining connections to his group’s sound. Songs such as Effe, Colpevole and Escort Lover became central to this first chapter.

Further releases extended the project’s reach, including Mi Piace with Sfera Ebbasta and a remix of Colpevole with Geolier. Alongside his harder trap material, collaborations such as Michelle Pfeiffer with Rose Villain and TAXI SULLA LUNA with Emma and Takagi & Ketra introduced his voice to a broader pop audience.

His second solo album, ICON, released in March 2024, marked his biggest commercial breakthrough. It reached number one and finished as Italy’s best-selling album of the year. That summer, SESSO E SAMBA, recorded with Gaia, became another major success, showing how comfortably he could move between rap and melodic summer pop.

In February 2025, Tony Effe entered the Sanremo Festival with DAMME ‘NA MANO, bringing a romantic Roman character to his music. During the covers evening, he joined Noemi to perform Franco Califano’s Tutto il resto è noia, highlighting a connection to the capital’s songwriting tradition.

In March 2026, he reunited with Side Baby for CRACK MUSICA II, released ten years after their original joint project. The record revisited the musical partnership behind an important part of the Dark Polo Gang’s early catalogue, reconnecting his solo career with the trap roots that first brought him recognition.

Tony Effe - Untouchable (2021)

Released on 4 June 2021, Untouchable is Tony Effe’s debut solo studio album. After establishing himself with the Dark Polo Gang, the Roman rapper uses this record to place his own voice and personality at the centre. Across the original 13 tracks, luxury, ambition and provocation sit alongside friendship, relationships and more personal reflections.

The guest appearances connect his Roman roots with the wider Italian scene and American trap. Gucci Mane joins him on “Tony Montana”, while Guè appears on “Escort Lover”. “Ke Lo Ke” brings together Lazza and French rapper Gazo, adding an international dimension. These collaborations complement Tony’s direct delivery, with compact verses and hooks that keep the songs immediate.

Connections to the Dark Polo Gang remain important. Pyrex features on “Romolo e Remo”, Wayne Santana on “Skyline”, and Side Baby on “Luce a Roma”, preserving the friendships and musical chemistry behind his earlier work. Elsewhere, “Lacrime”, featuring Tedua, adds a more reflective element, while “Effe” and “Colpevole” became defining songs from the project.

The album entered the Italian chart at number one, confirming that Tony Effe could carry a major release under his own name. Its subsequent digital expansion added collaborations including “Mi Piace” with Sfera Ebbasta, “Balaclava” with Capo Plaza and a remix of “Colpevole” with Geolier. Untouchable established the foundation of his solo career while keeping the sound and relationships of his group years close at hand.

Tony Effe - ICON (2024)

Released on 15 March 2024, ICON is Tony Effe’s second solo studio album. Its original 17 tracks build on the foundations of Untouchable, combining forceful trap songs with more melodic material and collaborations aimed at a wider audience. Money, fashion, desire and status run through the record, with Tony’s blunt delivery and Roman identity holding its different sounds together.

The guests bring together several generations of Italian rap. Guè appears on “DEMON TIME”, while Sfera Ebbasta and Geolier join Tony on “PILLOLE”. “HONEY” features Lazza and Capo Plaza, and “DOPO LE 4” pairs Bresh with Tedua. These combinations give the album variety while keeping Tony at the centre of each track.

“BOSS” and “TAXI SULLA LUNA”, featuring Emma and produced by Takagi & Ketra, had already introduced contrasting sides of the project before its release. The former draws on the swagger of American rap, while the latter favours a melodic chorus and an accessible pop sound. Elsewhere, the title track and “MIU MIU” reinforce the album’s focus on image, confidence and luxury.

ICON entered the Italian album chart at number one and finished as the country’s best-selling album of 2024. Its digital tracklist subsequently expanded beyond the original release, adding songs including “SESSO E SAMBA” with Gaia and, later, “DAMME ‘NA MANO”. Those additions document the next stages of Tony’s career, from his major summer hit to his 2025 Sanremo appearance, while the original album remains the foundation of his commercial breakthrough.

Tony Effe - CRACK MUSICA II (2026

Released on 13 March 2026, CRACK MUSICA II reunites Tony Effe and Side Baby ten years after their original joint project. Released in 2016 during the early Dark Polo Gang years, Crack Musica helped establish their partnership through stripped-back trap production, Roman slang and provocative lyrics. This sequel returns to that shared background after both rappers have developed careers under their own names.

The project contains 14 tracks, with Sick Luke playing a central role in the production. Songs such as “MODALITÀ DARK”, “VATICANO” and “BANCONOTE EURO” place the two rappers together again, bringing their contrasting voices into short, direct tracks. The emphasis falls on their chemistry, with money, status and their Roman identity linking the new material to their earlier work.

There is also room for individual performances. Tony takes the lead on “PUNK” and “ERD”, while Side Baby has his own moments on “7 GIORNI SU 7” and “CARTA FORBICE SASSO”. Guest appearances reinforce the connection to their musical circle: Pyrex joins them on “CC2”, Wayne appears on “FOREVER”, and Zep Dembo features on “MUSICA DI CONTRABBANDO”.

Following the broad commercial reach of ICON, CRACK MUSICA II brings Tony back to a partnership that shaped his beginnings. Its significance lies in hearing that relationship renewed a decade later, with a compact tracklist centred on the two rappers and the producers closely associated with their sound. It gives this chapter of his career a direct connection to the early Dark Polo Gang catalogue.
